Let's Get This Show on the Road Already!
It’s the start of a whole new season in a whole different world.
Starting this week, myself and the crew (Mar, Olivia, Tiffany, Molly and Chris) will be harvesting your veggies and heading down to the big city. It’ll start out slow, as it always does. But we have a lot of crops in the ground, so there is more to come. We’ll be prepping, seeding, replanning and adjusting from now until the days are short again to make this all go well.
If I can help it, this will be the last time I bring up Covid-19 in the newsletters. After all, life is more than just the problems that we face. And since so much of the media has it covered, I’ll not, except for the following:
As you might imagine, it’s quite easy here on the farm shelter in place and stay relatively safe. But now, there is the new element of heading to markets, and it’s taken some forethought. As we go through this season, we here on the farm will continue to do everything we can to provide a safe option for getting your veggies. From the harvest and pack here on the farm, to transport, to the market, we will take every precaution that we can. We’ll do all that we need to have a safe setup at the markets, and are always open to suggestions. For this season at the least, even if elected officials don’t, we will act like we are in the situation that we are in, which is one where we went to keep yourselves and ourselves healthy for the sake of each other. It’s not going to be very aesthetically pleasing, but it’ll work. As long as what you prepare at home with your veggies is pleasing, then we’ve done our job. We can wait until next year (I hope) to set up an interactive farmers market stand and see each others smiles. But for now, we will do what we have to.
We have a new market as well! We will still be at Mill City, Midtown and Northeast on Saturdays, but now you can find us on Sundays at the Downtown St. Paul Market too! This also means that we will offer home delivery for preorder in St. Paul as well. Now you have options as to what city you want to visit us in. Or, when you don’t have an arugula craving until Sunday morning, we can still help you out!
As far as things go here out in the hinterlands, with the markets starting, things will get a lot more focused. Each day will be the only opportunity for the tasks that day, and so the world becomes a little myopic with each to do list. I’m ready to go crazy and have a good season.
We’ll see as well what Mamma Nature lay’s down on the table for us, and call her bluff if we need to. But, she deals. We’re in her house. So far, so good, and I’m grateful for that.
See you at the Market!
